7.    What is cupping?
Cupping is when the boards turn up at the edges creating a cupping effect. This can be caused by a number of things:
•    Incorrect installation (not enough expansion cap)
•    Inferior quality (too much moisture content)

Some people don’t realize that carpet underlay is as important as choosing the carpet itself.  In the long run, the performance of your carpet is heavily dependent on the cushion. You really have to make sure you’re using the right underlay for the type of carpet you are installing. Basically, a carpet cushion acts as a base so that your carpet can retain its quality and appearance. You can choose a carpet cushion depending on its density and thickness. The rule of thumb for household installations is that the carpet cushion should be no more than 11mm thick.
